So, as revealed in the episode, I am closer to the age of retirement than legal drinking.  I am a poor copy editor because, given my career and level of seniority, I have had minions and staff review my written work for errors for years.  To that end, I am at the office, with my computer, my speaker phone, my executive assistant and I downloaded the AsCAst podcast.  I shut the door, put an ear bud in, dialed into a conference call I was required to listen to (sort of), and listened to As Cast.  I do not recommend this in the first 20 years of one's employment.

I think we should just call Trumpkin Trumplestiltskin from now on.  I love you ladies.

And a note on Dwarfs passing as humans - I don't know if Lewis was thinking of this or if it was just more 'magical air' (again, I adore you lot), but most of the oldest Dwarf mythology shows them as being basically the same size as humans . . . so maybe we could just say that the Narnian Dwarfs aren't quite as short as our more modern mythology would make us believe.

Pomona - the Roman goddess of fruit trees, gardens, and orchards, often represented as a wood nymph.  Jolly good point there about Aslan and the other guys.  Lewis LOVES weaving mythology into his stories - I think it's probably the biggest supporting point in is own statement that Narnia is not Christian allegory.

About Narnian racism - I agree to some extent, though I would point out that while Nikabrik does end up 'bad,' the other Black Dwarfs are still fighting with the Narnians, so maybe there's a bit of hope there.

Peter's characterization - that was actually my one biggest problem with the movie.  I can appreciate that you ladies who said so would prefer the Movie-Peter for his character development, but I just thought that it could have been done . . . better?  I don't know, I just had issues with Angry!Peter, versus maybe a confused and unsure Peter . . . bleh.  It's okay, fanfic is all about being able to peacefully coexist even with our different opinions.  And about Peter in the book just giving power to Caspian - I think it's because it was clearly Aslan's desire to call them into Narnia to put Caspian on the throne, not to rule again themselves.  But y'all are right, the different Peter IS good for movie drama.

@ Ruth - I want minions!!  But alas, I am probably more minion material right now rather than a Keeper of Minions.

I never hardcopy edit my fics either . . . in fact, they're hidden within piles and piles of "New Folder"s.

Speaking of WW2, my dad and I were just watching, over the past couple of days, a presentation of "Band of Brothers", about Easy Company which helped take the beach on D-Day, then helped win at the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), then just continued on through Poland etc on into Germany.  Very graphic (aaah!) but very well-done and moving.

PLANET EARTH!! WHOOOOO!  That series is pretty darn fantastic!

Spare Oom - solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short - not for rrrrrrth!

Please please please please write that "we're not in Kansas anymore" story!

Lewis has written that children should fill in the gaps in Narnia, yes - I think he would LOVE fanfiction.  Though honestly, I'm not sure how he'd feel about more adult-relatable fanfic in general . . . there's all that stuff out there speculating about Lewis being terrified of growing up/adult life . . . I don't know that all that's true, but seriously, we will never know, so does it really matter?  I think not.

I will never look at anyone with a Bluetooth the same way again - they will all always be talking to themselves about Narnia from now on.

You may have had self-loathing, but we are SO glad that you're writing Narnia fanfic!!!

 Clap

Adding my personal Neffer force to the recommendation of Anastigmat's Breaking the Borders, definitely.  And also the Andi Horton recommendation.  Both authors' entire bodies of work are just fantastic.

Awww, you're welcome, ladies!  Thanks for the shoutout - I love this place so much.

Yet another fantastic podcast!!

I am listening now!  And reacticating, although in somewhat less detail as I usually do as I am distracted with Things today.

.... this is where I mention that I still haven't got around to seeing Caspian, don't I?  Der....

EDIT:  Now that I have listened, here is my reaction post, which I think is even more fractured than normal this time:  Link.

I will respond with my own thoughts about it all, but I now have 10 people coming for dinner.  Oh, as I was preparing dinner, I was listening to the Podcast again, while the kids were running around doing homework in the other room.
"Mom, is that your voice?"  "
"Of course not.  It's a recording about the Prince Caspian book and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie."
"Oh.  OK."

I'm not going to try that when the husband comes home.

Awsome episode ladies! Rth your thoughts and opinions are so thought provoking and the interview was amazing!  Clap

Racism in Narnia is something very upsetting to think about in my opinion. I always imagined Narnia being this very excepting place overall, but I must agree to a certain extent. One thing I remember clearly about the book Prince Caspian is when Peter and Edmund fight off the werewolf and Nikabrik, and Peter, after Caspian wonders what to do with them, says, referring to the werewolf: "The vermin can be flung into a pit...." Even the High King is racist against a few creatures (which I find shocking and not a lot like Peter)! That one part always irked me a bit.

Hmm... as for Peter's character in the Movie and Book. I think that the movie version is a tad bit more believable, at least in Prince Caspian (to a certain extent). I think C.S Lewis didn't really give much thought to how the Pevensies would act after LWW. To be honest, out of all of the characters I think Peter would have had the hardest time adjusting to life back in Spare Oom, since he has the most responsibility and all of that good ol' stuff that comes with being a High King  wvll But he wouldn't be violent about it, perhaps just more ill-tempered than usual.

Again wonderful episode ladies! Can't wait for the next one!  smile  Clap

Oh, that always bugged me too.  Especially considering recent events and personages in BTB...

Dare you impugn our High King's most Steady of Temperaments and utter Inability to fly off The Handle at the slightest of Provocations?  *GRIN*  Peter never does that.  Not at all.  Not ever.

Haha I am typing this as I listen to it; love it so far, and getting a big kick out of the wondering if there was a bucket left at the Cair. I actually wrote a one-shot that explained how they got the water up, and how Susan found the chesspiece.

Aren't every single one of these questions just a fic waiting to be written?  whistling
